No matter what some people say, debating is an art! Sure it is a dying art but an art all ze same. It requires concentration, wits, patience, emotions, and coffee, lots and lots of coffee. I mean how can you do ze research late into ze long night without some cups of coffee? You can't, that's what! Anyways, ze idea of debating is that two teams are arguing over two sides of an idea. Ze teams usually pick ze sides Affirmative or Negative. For example, one team is arguing I should use my German accent, while ze other side says ze accent is a bit too much. I agree with ze first team. Some teams have ze easier side, for example, is Justin Bieber's music good? Ze side arguing Negative obviously has a huge advantage. When this situation happens the judges judge ze team with the easier side more harshly. A debate is very organized, starting with opening arguments, breaks, rebuttals, then open floor. Open floor is when ze real argument happens. My class is doing debates right now and we will have to do lots of research, ze co-op may run out of coffee. So that is how ze art known as debating works. Hopefully there will not be a debate in ze comments about ze German accent I use!
